The Comfy Chair
A three night residential experience for Trainee and Qualified Counsellors.
Monday 12th Aug for 3 nights (leaving the site on the 15th)
The Comfy Chair 2019 is a pilot event that provides you with an immersive, community-based CPD event that includes a three-night stay in a beautiful, outdoorsy venue.
The ethos of Comfy Chair is to bring together like-minded professionals so that we can learn, grow and develop from each other, both as individuals, and as Counsellors.
It very much celebrates the diversity of the vocation, embraces the different stages of professional development and encourages communal solidarity across the modalities, which is needed now more than ever. Whether you are Person Centred, Psychodynamic, Jungian, Existential, Pluralistic or any other, all voices are welcomed and valued.
Who is it for?
The Comfy Chair embraces all modalities and is suitable for both Trainee* and Qualified Counsellors alike.
Attendees should be comfortable sleeping in communal pods (8 beds per pod) and enjoy being outdoors, as where possible we will be making use of the gorgeous surroundings and conducting our workshops and talks in the fresh air (weather permitting).
Please note that this is a professional event and therefore only suitable for Counselling professionals.
*Minimum qualification: Tickets are open to individuals who are: Enrolled on a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling, including those that have completed level 3 and are due to start Level 4. Qualified Counsellors are also very welcome to attend, and workshops will be differentiated to meet the various learning needs of attendees.
What will we do?
The workshops and talks will be experiential in nature with, plenty of opportunity for discussion and input from all involved.
The full itinerary will be released nearer the time, however you can expect the following to be included in the package:
- Workshops providing an opportunity to share your approach to Counselling. By exploring various ways of working, sharing our own thoughts and experiences and generally celebrating the diversity of our vocation, we hope that everyone will walk away with something new.
- Several opportunities for reflection and peer support.
- Discussion and talks on a number of relevant subjects.
- Opportunities for professional networking throughout, as well as a chance to make some new friends!
- Downtime: A chance to socialise and spend time with like-minded, or perhaps different minded individuals!
- A CPD certificate worth 15 hours (for most of us, that’s half the year sorted)
What’s the venue like?
The Comfy Chair will be held in a quiet Glamping Village (we have the site exclusively) based in Herefordshire, overlooking the Welsh mountains.
Sleeping The site consists of heated pods that sleep 8 adults on 4 sets of bunk beds. Hot showers and a toilet block are available on site.
Eating The event is self-catered and there are several possibilities for sorting out grub: There is a covered BBQ hut (seats 20) for those that like to cook on an open fire. A large indoor cooking/dining area is provided with cooking equipment & crockery together with a fridge, gas oven, microwave, toaster, and kettle etc. If you’re happy to travel, there are a couple of pubs that provide food about 2 miles up the road, and the local town is about a 20-minute drive away.
Weather We have use of a conference centre for the entire stay, and should the weather be unfavorable, we will head inside for discussions and workshops.
A note on accessibility: Unfortunately, the site is not suitable for wheelchair users.
